Why students should come to Torrance

  • Torrance is a beautiful family community near some of the cleanest, longest, largest beaches in Southern California.
  • Torrance is one of the safest cities in Los Angeles County.
  • Torrance is conveniently located near many of the most popular tourist attractions in Southern California.
    • Torrance has 24 parks, including the 44-acre Wilson Park and the 52-acre Columbia Park, one golf course, a public swimming pool and numerous public tennis courts.
    • One of Torrance's special recreational features is its outstanding beach with facilities for swimming, surfing and volleyball; which attracts thousands each summer.
  • The Torrance Library system is a source of pride. Six public libraries fill the needs of both the residential and the business communities. They provide materials and services in a variety of formats, many of which can be accessed by modem from an office or a home computer.
  • Local attractions include the Torrance Cultural Arts Center, the Joslyn Fine Arts Gallery, and the South Bay Center of the Arts at El Camino College. There are craft shows, the Bunka-Sai Japanese Festival, the Gourmet Food and Wine Festival, the Torrance shorts Film Festival and the Festival of Trees at Christmas.
  • Throughout the year there are free Torrance Symphony concerts that everyone is welcome to attend.
  • Wilson Park, located on Crenshaw Boulevard at Sepulveda, hosts the Certified Farmers Market on Tuesday from 8-1 and Saturday from 8-12, a train ride on the first Sunday of every month, there are roller hockey leagues that students could join. In addition, nearby there is the Madrona Marsh--a freshwater nature preserve as well as beautiful Torrance Beach.
  • Torrance is also home to the Del Amo Fashion Center, the largest enclosed shopping mall in the west. This shopping mall has something for everyone with large department stores such as Macy’s as well as small specialty shops such as the Gap, Banana Republic, Liz Claiborne and the like.

Torrance was established as a city in 1921 but has a rich history dating back to 1794 with a Spanish land grant. For students who are interested in history there is the Torrance Historical Society Museum in old Downtown Torrance

Torrance also has a new skate park that is open for use. It does require a membership fee but for hardcore skaters this is the place to be. Torrance Skatepark is a 23,000 square foot outdoor facility designed exclusively for skateboarding, and aggressive in-line. The skatepark

offers a challenging environment for all skill levels including a beginner's area, a street course with a 6-foot bowl, a roof gap, planter boxes, hand rails and drop ins from a 7-foot high pyramid. The custom design offers endless runs and delivers nonstop excitement. All elements are steel and wood-framed and are Skatelite surfaced for maximum flexibility.

These are just some of the reasons that students should come to study in Torrance. We have a lot to offer and we welcome all questions and inquiries.
