Sports in Los Angeles

The sports scene in Los Angeles is an exciting one. Los Angeles doesn’t have a football team, so we take a lot of bride in basketball. Los Angeles is known for its world renowned teams: the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers.

Both teams play at the legendary Staples Center – a large stadium with a capacity of 20,000 and features state of the art lighting and sound. A must-see on any student’s list of things to do in Los Angeles should include a trip to the Staples Center to catch a game. Tickets for basketball games start at $37.50, and any seat in the house is a good one.

A basketball game can offer students the opportunity to see a classic American sport in action, and see some of the best players in the league like Kobe Bryant and Blake Griffin play against the most iconic teams in the NBA. Students can also do some stargazing, as celebrities regularly attend games. The halftime show is almost as exciting as the game itself.

There is usually a routine featuring cheerleaders and acrobats. In the lobby you can find food and gear to take home as souvenirs. GEOS Languages Plus, Los Angeles recently took students to see the Clippers play against the Chicago Bulls and had a great time!

Current Intensive English student Wiley said that “It was my first time going and I enjoyed it a lot with the other students and staff. The Staples Center is huge and beautiful; I saw different kinds of entertainment. Not just basketball, but music and shows.”

The experience doesn’t have to end or begin with the basketball game. The Staples Center is located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, so there are several bars and restaurants nearby and exciting things to visit like the Grammy Museum.
