Welcome to our February newsletter! We had a great start to our 2012 New Year. Our students have enjoyed many fun activities after school including movies, ice skating, and a whale-watching boat ride! We are excited to share pictures with you, along with some news about our school, classes, and programs.

We have an announcement to make regarding one of our staff members. Caroline Krockel, our Operations Coordinator, will be moving away from the South Bay and will be leaving our school. "I have had an amazing experience working for GEOS. I will miss our wonderful staff and students. I will definitely come back to visit. Thanks so much for everything, GEOS, agents, students, and friends!" - Caroline Krockel

Please remember to keep in touch and join our Facebook group! Feel free to insert pictures and share your experiences with your friends. Day after day, our Facebook group is becoming more and more popular. Many of our current and past students discuss their wonderful stays in LA and at GEOS.

Staff Introduction for English and TOEFL courses at GEOS Los Angeles South Bay

Meet Jen: "Growing up in a nomadic household, I have had the opportunity to live all over the U.S. and in S. Korea. I've also had the privilege to travel to over 10 other countries, including China, Thailand, Guam, and Vietnam. What brought me back to Los Angeles is its diverse culture. Aside from California's beautiful weather, beaches, mountains, and palm trees, the culture is rich and full of interesting people and places. I believe these experiences influenced me to join the GEOS Los Angeles family. Here, I get to meet people from all over the world. In class, we enjoy talking about people's cultures and sharing our traditions and foods with one another. This is wonderful because it gives all students the chance to apply what they learn through frequent and regular conversations with peers and me. I believe direct application through speech is the key to knowledge in grasping any language. My favorite part of GEOS is when we go on excursions outside the school, such as Universal Students, Six Flags Magic Mountain, and Disney Land. There is so much that can be taught through these excursions, and nothing is more rewarding than to know that I can help someone's learning experience at GEOS Los Angeles is an unforgettable one."

There are always so many fun activities in Los Angeles to participate in. This month we will be continuing to plan many fun activities for our students including movies, ice skating, and of course learning about Valentine's Day and making valentines. We will also have our regular weekly Coffee Talks and Movie Talks as well. It's so fun to get together for coffee, treats, and movies every week to practice speaking English with new friends

The students asked, and we have listened! Student ID Cards are now available! Get Student Discounts on Food, Bus Rides, and much more!

Our new Intensive English schedule is working out really well. Students are enjoying having classes Monday through Friday. We still finish in time for a full afternoon of activities. We will be opening the TOEFL Preparation Course on February 27 so anyone interested in developing his or her TOEFL test skills should sign up now.

Classes are still small so students get a lot of personal attention from the instructors.
